About the Memorial

The Sandra Carpenter Memorial was conceived out of Sandra’s family and friends’ hope to carry on her vibrant and generous spirit. To support her passion projects, continue her legacy and to inspire other women writers. Today, the Memorial celebrates Sandra through events like online book discussion groups and virtual “write-in” sessions that bring book lovers and writers together in her memory.

“In honor of the coming year, I thought I would take a slightly different turn and tell you about six things that made me happy—it's my version of a gratitude list:

1. Creative time.
2. Traveling.
3. Hanging out with family and friends.
4. Putting down roots.
5. Cooking, baking and perusing food markets.
6. Writing.”

59 North

“My not-so-secret passion has been writing a book. It’s called Going Viking and shares the story of what happens when I give up my cushy career and life in Cincinnati to follow that dream of living in Europe and traveling the world.” Sandra’s blog, 59 North, was the place where she test-drove the themes, experiences and stories she aspired to gather into her memoir.
